TAUNTON, Mass. — A 53-year-old wife and mother fatally shot herself soon after faxing a letter to her mortgage company saying that by the time they foreclosed on her house that day, she would be dead. Police in Taunon say Carlene Balderrama used her husband’s high-powered rifle to kill herself Tuesday afternoon, 90 minutes before her foreclosed home was to be sold at auction. The mortgage company notified authorities, who found her body an hour later. Police say she left a note to her family telling them to take the life insurance money to pay for the house.
A Kentucky woman was arrested Friday on suspicion of selling her body for a $100 gas card. “When people are selling their bodies for gas, that’s pretty sad,” said Kenton County chief prosecutor Ken Easterling. 34-year-old Angela Eversole, along with her john Kenneth Nowak, 50, were caught at a Fort Wright, Kentucky Days Inn during an unrelated police sting. Gifts in addition to the gas card were exchanged, leading to Eversole being charged with prostitution and doing business without an occupational license, and Nowak with promoting prostitution. More

Croatian police say Hedviga Golik, who was born in 1924, had apparently made herself a cuppa and sat down to watch her black-and-white television before she died.
Officers believe that would have been in 1966, when she was last seen by neighbours. They said one day she seemed to have just disappeared and they thought she had moved to the capital Zagreb. Read more

A Malaysian woman woke up to a real-life nightmare, discovering that the naked man who had slipped into her bed in the middle of the night was a thief, not her husband, a newspaper said on Tuesday.
The 36-year-old housewife was asleep when the thief, noticing that her husband was fast asleep on the couch, quietly stripped off and lay down beside her, the Star newspaper said, quoting a police report filed in the eastern state of Terengganu.
