War, Inc.

A political satire set in Turaqistan, a country occupied by an American private corporation run by a former US Vice-President Aykroyd/Cheney. In an effort to monopolize the opportunities the war-torn nation offers, the corporation’s CEO hires a troubled hit man (Cusack), to kill a Middle East oil minister.

Now, struggling with his own growing demons, the assassin must pose as the corporation’s Trade Show Producer in order to pull off this latest hit, while maintaining his cover by organizing the high-profile wedding of Yonica Babyyeah (Duff) an outrageous Middle Eastern pop star, and keeping a sexy left wing reporter (Tomei) in check. PETA announced plans for a $1 million prize to the “first person to come up with a method to produce commercially viable quantities of in vitro meat at competitive prices by 2012.” According to The New York Times, “Lisa Lange, a vice president of the organization, said, “…it’s our job to introduce the philosophy and hammer it home that animals are not ours to eat.”

Sigh…While I have deep respect for PETA’s concern over the violent slaughter of animals and/or their inhumane conditions prior to slaughter, I think it logical to conclude that any form of life digestible by any other form of life is fair game for consumption and meant to be eaten or it wouldn’t be on Earth. Some researchers claim plants are alive, can feel, have emotions, and are conscious. If that’s the case, then one could suggest vegetarians are serial killers, which is, of course, absurd.

Additionally, there’s little to no research that I know of regarding the nutritional properties in vitro meat, or the possible long term health effects on humans of eating test tube flesh synthetically supplemented with nutrients missing in vitro, nutrients that are products only of digestion, like vitamin B12. What effect will co-culturing muscle cells with fat cells in order to control the ratio of omega-3/omega-6 fatty acids in vitro meat have on us all? Read more about test tube meat production here
