(CNN) Police have nabbed nearly 70 girls under the age of 18 since 2005. Most of the girls were released to foster or group homes. Those are just the official figures; investigators think there are many more child prostitutes out there. Police say most of the ads appear on Craigslist, the popular and free Internet classifieds site, under a category named “Erotic Services.” Even though Craigslist has posted a bold disclaimer warning against human trafficking and the exploitation of children, law enforcement officials said it doesn’t seem to deter girls from posting the ads or men who are searching for sex. The parents of a seven-day old Vancouver girl were arrested after allegedly trying to sell her on Craigslist. “This certainly in my 27 years is one that I thought I would never see,” said Constable Tim Fanning of the Vancouver Police Department.
The bizarre incident began Friday afternoon when Maple Ridge, B.C., grandmother Marilyn Bateman clicked on to Craigslist, a popular classifieds website, in search of home furnishings. What Mrs. Bateman instead found was an ad offering an infant for $10,000. “I was shaking,” she said. “I opened it up and I was literally shaking and I thought, ‘Oh, my gosh. This can’t be.’ I mean, even as a practical joke or a hoax … you can’t do that.”
The ad, titled, “MUST HAVE!!!!!! - $10,000,” described the child for sale as “a new baby girl, 7 days old, healthy and very cute.” More

When looking at the Craigslist listing data and comparing it to U.S. Retail Gasoline Price charts, you can see that July 2007 was after the period America had to deal with $3.00 a gallon gas. Although there is some lag time in the price rises, you can see that for each bump of increase in retail gas price, Craigslist saw stronger and stronger gains in the listing growth rates. When you look at February of 2008, when gas price started to climb to the sky, the listings growth on Craigslist for cars and trucks and recreational vehicles reacted perfectly in line with the gas price increase.
