CNN’s Mike Roselli and Suzanne Malveaux have confirmed that former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards will endorse Barack Obama at a Michigan campaign event about an hour from now.

Obama will come on stage in Grand Rapids and say he has a special guest to introduce, followed by the appearance of Edwards himself.

Ancient humans started down the path of evolving into two separate species before merging back into a single population, a genetic study suggests. The genetic split in Africa resulted in distinct populations that lived in isolation for as much as 100,000 years, the scientists say. This could have been caused by arid conditions driving a wedge between humans in eastern and southern Africa. Details have been published in the American Journal of Human Genetics.

It is tackling more complex issues, like HIV/AIDS and environmental degradation, which creates an impetus for the Peace Corps to professionalize. Now debate is brewing over how the agency can attract greater numbers of older, technically skilled volunteers. Those skilled volunteers may come from the droves of retiring baby boomers.

Federal drug agents say candy-flavored cocaine is a new and troubling development. This new Cocaine product is a full-strength powder into which strawberry, coconut, lemon and cinnamon flavors have been chemically synthesized. The flavored cocaine commands $1,100 to $1,400 an ounce on the street, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration said after DEA agents and state investigators seized the flavored drugs at two homes in Modesto, Calif. Regular powder cocaine, by comparison, fetches $600 to $700 an ounce, the agency said.
