Saudi Arabian Defense Minister Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz says Iran has the right to achieve nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. In an interview with Spain’s ABC newspaper, the Saudi minister said it was crucial that there are ‘no nuclear weapons or weapons of mass destruction’ throughout the region and the Persian Gulf.

“But every state has the right to possess nuclear technology for peaceful means,” he remarked on Iran’s nuclear program. The enrichment issue forms the crux of Iran’s nuclear standoff with the West and ‘Washington and allies’ accuse the Islamic Republic of covertly seeking nuclear weaponry. More
